DAY 1 – ARRIVE IN NHA TRANG | BAY ARRIVAL & BEACHFRONT RESORT

Fly into Cam Ranh International Airport — 35 kilometres south of the city, one of the most scenic airport approaches in Vietnam: the aircraft descends over a bay of turquoise water and white sand that prepares the traveler for what is about to follow. Transfer by private vehicle along the coastal road to your beachfront resort on Nha Trang Beach, the 6-kilometre crescent of white sand that has made this city the most popular beach destination in Vietnam for both domestic and international visitors.

Check in and walk directly onto the sand. Nha Trang Bay is one of the most visually dramatic urban beach settings in Southeast Asia: the bay enclosed by a curved headland to the south and the Hon Chong promontory to the north, with 19 islands visible across the water in various configurations of distance and clarity depending on the light and the season. The resort beach, the city behind it, and the bay in front of it — this is a setting that works at every hour of the day and most effectively at dusk, when the fishing boats light up across the water and the city’s seafront promenade fills with the Vietnamese families who use it every evening as a matter of daily life.

Welcome dinner at a rooftop restaurant above the beachfront: fresh Nha Trang seafood in its most characteristic preparations — tôm hùm nướng grilled rock lobster with butter and garlic, mực nướng sa tế charcoal-grilled squid with chili paste, and gỏi cá mai raw silver fish salad with sesame and herbs that is found only in Nha Trang and nowhere else in Vietnam. Cold 333 beer. The bay visible below as the evening fishing traffic increases.

DAY 2 – NHA TRANG | CITY HERITAGE MORNING & HOT SPRING MUD BATH

A morning devoted to Nha Trang’s cultural and historical layers before the city becomes fully occupied by the beach. Begin at Po Nagar Cham Towers — a complex of Hindu temples built by the Cham civilization on a granite hillock above the Cai River mouth, the oldest structure dating from the 8th century and the complex expanded over four centuries of Cham rule before the Vietnamese absorbed the kingdom in the 17th century. The main tower — Kalan — is 23 metres tall and houses a black stone statue of the goddess Yan Po Nagar, still the object of active worship by both Cham and Vietnamese Buddhist communities; the guide explains both traditions and the remarkable accommodation between them that has persisted for 300 years. The towers are most beautiful in the early morning when the stone is lit from the east and the fishing boats on the river below are returning from the overnight catch.

Continue to Long Son Pagoda — the city’s most significant Buddhist temple, its main hall housing a large jade Buddha, and its hilltop dominated by a 14-metre white reclining Buddha erected in 1963 in memory of Buddhist monks and nuns who immolated themselves in protest against the Diem government’s anti-Buddhist policies. The 152 steps to the summit are worth the climb: the view over Nha Trang’s rooftops to the bay beyond is the best elevated urban perspective available in the city.

Afternoon: Thap Ba Hot Springs, 7 kilometres north of the city center — a complex of naturally heated mineral springs and therapeutic mud pools whose warm spring water, emerging from the granite bedrock at 38–40°C and rich in dissolved minerals, has made Thap Ba the most celebrated wellness destination on the central Vietnamese coast. The mud bath experience: immersion in pools of warm volcanic mud for 20–30 minutes — the mud’s mineral content absorbed through the skin, its temperature gently loosening the muscles, its buoyancy making movement effortless. Rinse in the mineral pools, then move to the graduated thermal cascade pools — a series of pools at descending temperatures from 40°C to ambient — for the Vietnamese equivalent of a Scandinavian sauna circuit. Finish with a 60-minute traditional Vietnamese massage at the Thap Ba massage center. Return to the resort by late afternoon. Dinner at the resort: a lighter meal after the afternoon’s mineral immersion.

DAY 3 – NHA TRANG | ISLAND HOPPING & HON MUN MARINE RESERVE SNORKEL

The day that Nha Trang was designed for. Depart the resort pier at 8:00 AM by private speedboat for the island hopping circuit of Nha Trang Bay — 19 islands spread across a bay whose dimensions are large enough that each island has a distinct character, ecology, and relationship to the others. The route is selected by the guide based on current sea conditions and visibility, but always includes Hon Mun — the centerpiece of Nha Trang’s Marine Protected Area and consistently rated among the top diving and snorkelling sites in Vietnam, its coral reef beginning at 3 metres depth and extending to 25 metres in excellent condition relative to comparable Southeast Asian sites.

Snorkel above the Hon Mun reef with the marine guide: the species count at this site includes over 350 types of coral and 200 species of reef fish including the Nha Trang-endemic cá mú grouper, sea turtles, starfish of species not found elsewhere in Vietnamese waters, and — with luck and patience — the occasional passing reef shark visible at the reef edge. The guide carries an underwater identification slate and conducts a species briefing at the surface before entry.

Continue by speedboat to Hon Mot — a small island with a natural swimming beach and a shallow reef suitable for free-diving — for a mid-morning swim and a floating lunch on board: grilled reef fish caught that morning by a fishing boat the guide has arranged to meet at the island, served with bánh mì, pickled vegetables, and fresh tropical fruit. Afternoon stop at Hon Tam Island for a beach rest before the return to the main pier. Sunset beer on the resort terrace watching the fishing boats return.

DAY 4 – NHA TRANG | VINPEARL ISLAND EXCURSION & FLOATING SEAFOOD DINNER

Morning excursion to Vinpearl Island — the entertainment and resort island 3 kilometres from the mainland, connected to the Nha Trang beachfront by the Vinpearl Cable Car, whose 3,320-metre crossing above the bay is one of the longest over-water cable car routes in the world and an experience whose views — Nha Trang beach behind, Vinpearl Island ahead, and the bay’s island archipelago in every direction — justify the crossing independently of the destination. The island contains Vinpearl’s amusement park, water park, and private beach; the Sun DMC excursion focuses on the private beach and the cable car experience rather than the theme park, though the water slides are available for those who want them.

Return to the mainland by cable car in the early afternoon. Afternoon free — the resort beach, the city’s famous mud bath if not already visited, or a final Da Nang shopping excursion. Evening: a floating seafood dinner aboard a traditional wooden restaurant boat anchored in Nha Trang Bay — one of the most atmospheric dining settings in Vietnam, the boat positioned 200 metres from the shore with the city’s lights reflecting in the water below the open dining deck. The menu is the Nha Trang seafood canon at its most complete: bào ngư abalone in oyster sauce, cua rang muối salt-roasted swimming crab, tôm hùm rock lobster, and ốc hương spotted babylon snails stir-fried with lemongrass — a meal that the city’s fishing economy has been supplying to tables like this one for a hundred years.

DAY 5 – NHA TRANG | BA HO WATERFALLS JUNGLE TREK & FINAL BEACH AFTERNOON

A morning of jungle and fresh water before the final beach afternoon. Transfer 25 kilometres north of Nha Trang to Ba Ho Waterfalls — three tiered cascades in a river gorge in the foothills of the Khanh Hoa mountains, connected by a trail through secondary rainforest that is the only meaningful jungle trekking available within day-trip distance of the city. The trail follows the river upstream through a landscape of granite boulders, river palms, and bamboo groves: approximately 2 kilometres of easy-to-moderate walking on a path that crosses the river three times by stepping stones before reaching the first cascade — a 15-metre fall into a deep, clear pool of mountain water. Continue to the second and third cascades, each higher and more secluded than the one below, the jungle closing more completely around the trail with each upstream kilometre. Swim in the third pool — the coldest, the most private, and the most completely natural swimming water available in the Nha Trang region. Return downstream by the same trail.

Back in Nha Trang by noon for a final, unhurried beach afternoon. The resort beach, the Nha Trang seafront promenade, and the particular quality of afternoon light on this bay — the water color shifting through shades of turquoise, green, and deep blue as the depth changes across the bay — one last time. Sunset at a rooftop bar above the beachfront promenade. Farewell dinner at a celebrated Nha Trang seafood restaurant on Tran Phu Street: the city’s most famous seafood strip, its restaurants distinguished by the quality of the morning’s catch displayed in tanks and on ice at the entrance.

DAY 6 – NHA TRANG | DEPARTURE

A final Nha Trang morning — the beach at dawn, a last bowl of bún bò or bánh canh cua crab thick-noodle soup at a street stall near the market, and a walk along the promenade before transfer to Cam Ranh International Airport for your onward flight.
