DAY 1 – VIENTIANE | ARRIVAL & BIKE FIT
Arrive in Vientiane and transfer to your hotel in the city centre. Afternoon bike fit session: Trek or Specialized trail bikes fitted to each rider’s measurements, helmet fitting, and a short 10-kilometre orientation ride through Vientiane’s quiet streets and along the Mekong riverfront promenade. Evening briefing over dinner at a Vientiane riverside restaurant: route overview, daily distances, elevation profiles, and the support vehicle system. Laab minced meat salad, mok pa steamed fish in banana leaf, and cold Beerlao as the sun drops over the Mekong.
DAY 2 – VIENTIANE TO VANG VIENG | SUPPORT VEHICLE TRANSFER & WARM-UP RIDE
Transfer day by support vehicle from Vientiane to Vang Vieng — 160 kilometres. Arrive in the early afternoon and check in to your riverside lodge with mountain views. Afternoon: a 20-kilometre warm-up ride through flat farmland east of Vang Vieng, crossing the Nam Song River and looping through rice paddies and small villages before returning along the river. A first sense of Lao country riding: quiet roads, waving children, water buffaloes on the verge, and karst towers appearing behind the treeline.
DAY 3 – VANG VIENG | FULL DAY KARST VALLEY CYCLING | 60KM
The most scenic single cycling day of the tour. Depart at 7:30 AM and ride north up the Nam Song valley — karst towers rising vertically on both sides of a flat river plain with smooth surface, gentle gradient, and 360-degree views. Stop at Tham Phu Kham cave and the Blue Lagoon — a pool of extraordinary turquoise water fed by a spring, swim before the tour groups arrive. Continue on unsealed roads through Hmong and Lao Loum villages. Lunch at a village restaurant: sticky rice, grilled chicken, and papaya salad on a wooden platform above the river. Afternoon return along the opposite bank of the Nam Song for a different perspective of the valley.
DAY 4 – VANG VIENG TO ECO-LODGE | 75KM | MIXED TERRAIN
Depart Vang Vieng heading north on the Route 13 corridor — a quiet road above Vang Vieng with longer climbs, faster descents, and the first mountain forest sections. A detour off Route 13 onto a dirt track descending to the Mekong riverbank — 15 kilometres through primary forest on a path used only by local fishing communities, emerging at a riverside village where the support vehicle meets the group for lunch at a family home above the water. Continue north to the overnight eco-lodge: wooden bungalows above the Mekong, no WiFi, no traffic, the sound of the river through the bamboo walls all night.
DAY 5 – ECO-LODGE TO LUANG PRABANG | 90KM | RIVER VALLEY FINISH
The final full cycling day — 90 kilometres following the Mekong valley as it narrows approaching Luang Prabang. The morning section is the most demanding: a 400-metre climb through forest before a long technical descent. A midday stop by longtail boat to the Pak Ou Caves — the group beaches the bikes and crosses the Mekong to two famous cave temples filled with thousands of Buddha figures. Re-board the bikes for the final 35 kilometres into Luang Prabang, the UNESCO-listed town appearing through the trees. Roll across the finish line at the lodge in the Old Town. A beer on the terrace above the Mekong before the best shower of the week.
DAY 6 – LUANG PRABANG | REST DAY & CULTURAL EXPLORATION
A complete rest from the bike. Morning: the tak bat alms-giving ceremony at dawn, then Wat Xieng Thong — the most beautiful temple in Laos — and the Royal Palace Museum. Afternoon: the textile market, paper-making workshops, and a Lao cooking class. Sunset from Phou Si Hill. Farewell dinner at a riverside restaurant.
DAY 7 – LUANG PRABANG | KUANG SI WATERFALL EXCURSION
An optional final active day: a 30-kilometre return cycling excursion to Kuang Si Waterfall — tiered turquoise limestone pools in the jungle 30 kilometres south of Luang Prabang. Or for those who have given their legs enough, a leisurely morning in the town followed by a Mekong boat excursion. Evening departure by night bus or flight to Vientiane for onward connections.
DAY 8 – DEPARTURE FROM LUANG PRABANG OR VIENTIANE
Transfer to Luang Prabang International Airport for domestic or international departure.
