DAY 1 – BANGKOK OR DIRECT FLIGHT | ARRIVE PHUKET | WEST COAST RESORT
Fly to Phuket International Airport — direct from most major Asian hubs or via Bangkok — and transfer to your luxury resort on Phuket’s west coast. The west coast beaches — Surin, Kamala, Bang Tao, and the quieter stretch of Layan at the northern end — are the island’s finest: wide, maintained, and facing the Andaman Sea sunset directly. The resort is selected by Sun DMC based on travel dates, budget, and preferred beach: Amanpuri for the most architecturally significant resort in Thailand; Trisara for the most private; Anantara Mai Khao for the most family-appropriate; Rosewood Phuket for the most dramatic clifftop position.
Check in and begin the rhythm of the island. Dinner at the resort this evening — a Thai tasting menu or international grill depending on preference — with the reminder that Phuket’s food scene extends well beyond the resort gates and that tomorrow will begin to explore it.
DAY 2 – PHUKET | PHANG NGA BAY PRIVATE SPEEDBOAT EXCURSION
Depart the resort by private vehicle to the Ao Po Grand Marina on the northeast coast of Phuket — 45 minutes from the main resort beaches — for embarkation on your private speedboat for Phang Nga Bay. The bay is one of the great natural spectacles of Southeast Asia: 400 square kilometres of protected marine park in which limestone karst towers rise vertically from calm tidal water, their bases hollowed by millennia of wave action into caves, arches, and grottoes accessible by small boat at the right tide.
The route covers the bay’s highlights in sequence: the Panyee floating Muslim village — a community of 1,700 people living on a settlement built entirely on stilts above the water, its mosque rising above the wooden houses, established here 200 years ago by a Malay fishing community whose descendants still live in the same location — then James Bond Island, the karst formation used in the 1974 film The Man with the Golden Gun and now the most visited single point in Phang Nga Bay, best appreciated from the speedboat at a distance before the day trip crowds arrive. Sea caves navigable by inflatable canoe at low tide: the guide paddles the canoe through cave passages too low for the speedboat, emerging into enclosed lagoons open to the sky above and completely hidden from the outside world by the karst walls. Lunch on board anchored in a quiet bay. Return to Ao Po in the mid-afternoon. Sunset cocktails at the resort.
DAY 3 – PHI PHI ISLANDS | FULL-DAY PRIVATE SPEEDBOAT
The headline day. Depart the resort at 7:30 AM by private vehicle to Chalong Pier for the speedboat to the Phi Phi Islands — a 45-minute crossing of the Andaman Sea to the archipelago whose combination of white sand, turquoise water, and limestone cliffs made it one of the most photographed island groups in Southeast Asia and, after The Beach was filmed at Maya Bay in 2000, one of the most visited. Maya Bay has been closed to boats and swimming since 2018 to allow the coral reef to recover; it is now accessible by small electric boat for viewing from the water — the closure has restored a clarity and calm to the bay that makes it even more beautiful than its pre-fame photographs.
The day covers the island group in sequence: Pileh Lagoon — an enclosed body of water surrounded on all sides by vertical limestone walls, accessible through a narrow channel and calm regardless of the sea state outside — for snorkelling above coral that receives no anchor damage; Viking Cave — a sea cave covered floor-to-ceiling in prehistoric boat paintings, its upper reaches still harvested for edible bird nests by collectors using bamboo poles — for observation from the water; Phi Phi Don’s Long Beach for a swim and a long lunch at a beach restaurant with the island behind and the open Andaman Sea in front. Return to Phuket by late afternoon. Dinner in Phuket Old Town.
DAY 4 – PHUKET | OLD TOWN HERITAGE WALK & FULL SPA DAY
A morning on land rather than water — and a very good morning on land. Phuket Old Town is one of the most architecturally intact examples of Sino-Portuguese urban heritage in Southeast Asia: a grid of streets in Phuket Town whose shophouses, built by Chinese tin merchants in the 19th century using a style that blends southern Chinese construction with Portuguese colonial detailing, have survived the island’s transformation into Southeast Asia’s most visited resort destination without losing their character. A guided walk with a local heritage specialist: Thalang Road, Dibuk Road, and the Soi Rommanee lane, past the facades that document the architectural ambition of Phuket’s tin-boom prosperity, and into the local restaurants and coffee shops that make the Old Town the best place on the island for a mid-morning breakfast that has nothing to do with the resort buffet. The Kopitiam restaurant, in a 100-year-old shophouse, makes the best khao tom rice soup in southern Thailand.
Return to the resort for a full afternoon spa program: a Thai herbal compress massage — the signature treatment of Thai traditional medicine, in which cloth bundles of lemongrass, kaffir lime, and camphor are heated in steam and pressed against the muscles in a rhythm that is simultaneously a massage and an aromatherapy treatment — followed by an Andaman salt scrub using sea salt harvested from the salt pans of Phang Nga Bay, finishing with a 30-minute flotation treatment in the resort’s private spa pool.
DAY 5 – PHUKET | KATA NOI BEACH & SUNSET LONGTAIL MANGROVE CRUISE
A more leisurely day. Morning at the resort beach before a mid-morning transfer to Kata Noi Beach — the smallest and most beautiful of Phuket’s southern beaches, a 300-metre crescent of white sand enclosed by jungle-covered headlands on three sides and open to the Andaman Sea on the fourth. Kata Noi has no resort directly on the beach, no jet ski operators, and no beach vendors beyond a single longtail boat that offers snorkelling trips to the reef 200 metres offshore. It is, for Phuket, remarkably peaceful. A long morning on the sand and in the water before a seafood lunch at a restaurant on the headland above: pla kapong neung manao whole steamed barramundi with lime and chili, hoi shell ob wun sen baked scallops with glass noodles, and som tum papaya salad that arrives with the heat level calibrated to request.
Return to the resort in the early afternoon. Late afternoon: a private longtail boat excursion through the mangrove channels north of Ao Po — a different ecology entirely from the open sea, the channels narrow and bird-rich, the water dark with tannin, the roots of the mangrove trees forming walls of natural complexity on both sides. The guide knows which channels open to small clearings where monitor lizards sun themselves on the roots and kingfishers sit visible on branches 3 metres away. Return by open water as the sun sets over the Andaman — the longtail bow-wave pink in the last light.
DAY 6 – PHUKET | FINAL RESORT DAY & FAREWELL DINNER
A final full day at the resort — by this point in the itinerary, the body has found the rhythm of the island and the last full day is the one in which the resort is most fully inhabited. Breakfast without checking the time. The pool. The beach. A return to whatever part of the resort has become the favorite. An afternoon massage, or not. A final sunset from the resort bar, the Andaman Sea doing what it does at the end of the day in this latitude.
Farewell dinner at one of Phuket’s celebrated destination restaurants: Suay Restaurant in Phuket Town, Acqua on the north Patong hillside, or a private beachside table arranged by Sun DMC at the resort — the choice based on the group’s preference for town exploration or resort closure. Either way, it is the kind of dinner that arrives at the end of a week well spent and tastes accordingly.
DAY 7 – PHUKET | DEPARTURE
Transfer to Phuket International Airport for your onward flight — direct international connections to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, Dubai, and selected European hubs.
