DAY 1 – ARRIVE IN DA NANG | MY KHE BEACH RESORT

Fly into Da Nang International Airport — one of the most efficiently connected airports in Vietnam, with direct flights from Singapore, Bangkok, Seoul, Tokyo, and most major Vietnamese cities — and transfer directly to your beachfront resort on My Khe Beach. Check in and walk directly onto the sand: My Khe Beach runs 33 kilometres from the Marble Mountains in the south to the Da Nang city peninsula in the north, its white sand firm, its waves consistent, and its water quality excellent — the US Army, which used it as a rest and recreation beach during the war and named it China Beach, had reasonable taste in beaches.

An afternoon at leisure before the welcome dinner at the resort’s beachfront restaurant: central Vietnamese cuisine — bánh canh thick rice flour noodle soup, mì Quảng turmeric noodles with pork and herbs, and the local bún chả cá fish cake noodle soup that Da Nang considers its signature dish. The evening light over the East Sea from the resort terrace is one of the pleasures of staying on this particular stretch of the central Vietnamese coast.

DAY 2 – DA NANG | MARBLE MOUNTAINS & FULL BEACH DAY

A morning excursion to the Marble Mountains — five limestone peaks named for the five elements (metal, wood, water, fire, earth) that rise abruptly from the flat coastal plain immediately south of My Khe Beach, their interiors containing cave temples, Buddha statues, and passageways that connect the surface to caverns open to the sky above. The most significant is Huyen Khong Cave — a vast natural chamber containing a large gilded Buddha and an opening in the roof through which a column of light falls to the cave floor at certain hours, an effect the monks who established the cave temple in the 17th century understood and aligned their altar to receive. The view from the summit — the coastline, the city, and the green mountains to the west — is the best elevated coastal perspective within an hour of Da Nang.

Return to the resort for a long beach afternoon. The beach butler arranges sunbeds, coconuts, and cold towels at the waterline; the resort’s water sports center has paddleboards, kayaks, and a windsurfer for those who require more from the afternoon than horizontal rest. Sunset at the resort pool bar, the Dragon Bridge visible to the north — on Friday and Saturday evenings it breathes fire and water at 9:00 PM, a spectacle best viewed from the northern end of My Khe Beach with a cold drink.

DAY 3 – HOI AN | ANCIENT TOWN BY DAY & LANTERN EVENING

A 30-minute drive south brings you to Hoi An — the best-preserved trading port town in Southeast Asia, its UNESCO-listed Old Town a quarter of 1,000 heritage buildings spanning Japanese, Chinese, French, and Vietnamese architectural traditions accumulated during 400 years of international commerce. The morning visit covers the town’s most significant buildings with a local heritage guide: the Japanese Covered Bridge, the Tan Ky Ancient House, the Fukian Chinese Assembly Hall, and the covered market. By 11:00 AM the town begins to fill with day visitors; by 11:30 the group is at a riverside restaurant for lunch: Cao Lầu noodles made with water from a single ancient well, White Rose steamed shrimp dumplings, and Bánh mì Hội An — the sandwich that this town does better than anywhere else in the world.

Afternoon at leisure: the tailor shops of Nguyen Thai Hoc Street (a bespoke garment can be completed in 24 hours), the pottery workshops of Thanh Ha village 3 kilometres from the Old Town, or simply the riverside cafes with their coffee and their view of the Thu Bon River traffic. Return in the evening for Hoi An by lantern light — the Old Town after dark is a completely different experience from the same streets in daylight: the stone houses illuminated by silk lanterns in every color, the river reflecting the light, and the crowds thinned enough to allow the architecture to be appreciated rather than merely glimpsed between shoulders. Dinner at a riverside restaurant: the full Hoi An menu eaten in the best possible setting.

DAY 4 – DA NANG | SPA DAY & SUNSET COOKING CLASS

A spa day at the resort — by design, not by default. Central Vietnam’s heat by mid-tour makes a day of air-conditioned treatment rooms, plunge pools, and relaxation lounges genuinely restorative rather than merely indulgent. A full morning program: herbal steam room, Vietnamese coffee body scrub (using Da Nang’s own robusta coffee grounds), a 90-minute deep tissue massage from a therapist trained in traditional Vietnamese pressure point technique, and a final 30-minute facial using local ingredients — aloe vera, turmeric, and rice bran — grown in the resort’s garden.

Afternoon at leisure — the pool, the beach, or a return to Hoi An for tailor collection. Late afternoon: a Vietnamese cooking class at a riverside cooking school in Hoi An: hands-on preparation of three dishes with a local chef — bánh xèo sizzling crepes, gỏi cuốn fresh spring rolls, and chè sweet dessert soup. The class ends with dinner: everything cooked during the class, eaten at the table above the river as the lanterns come on in the Old Town below.

DAY 5 – LANG CO BEACH & HAI VAN PASS DAY EXCURSION

A day trip north along the coast to Lang Co — a 10-kilometre stretch of pristine beach 60 kilometres north of Da Nang, connected to the city by the scenic Hai Van Pass coastal road and largely undeveloped beyond the Banyan Tree Lang Co resort that occupies its northern end. The drive to Lang Co crosses the Hai Van Pass — the mountain promontory that divides the climatic zones of central Vietnam, its summit road cresting at 500 metres with views of the coastline in both directions that travelers have been recording since the 17th century.

Spend the morning on Lang Co Beach: fewer people, calmer water, and a quality of silence that My Khe Beach — however beautiful — cannot replicate. A seafood lunch at a family restaurant on the lagoon side of the peninsula: whole steamed crab, grilled scallops, and cháo cá fish congee made from the morning’s catch. Return to Da Nang by mid-afternoon over the Hai Van Pass for a final sunset at the resort.

DAY 6 – DA NANG | DEPARTURE

A final My Khe Beach morning — the resort breakfast, a last swim, the east-facing beach at its most beautiful in the morning light — before transfer to Da Nang International Airport for your onward flight.
